Yay! I went back to Melaka last week to complete my final project.
Honestly, I wasn't very satisfied with the outcome, but I am still very happy because I get to spend a day with my grandma, which I would not normally do.
You see, I'm not very close with my grandma.. She lives in a small kampung and has a hard life. We don't have much in common except she and I share some same DNA.
A day spend with her seems to pass by very quickly. I never talk to her as much as I did that day.
My project begin by me taking a candid shot of her profile:
She was talking to my mother in this picture.
Then she told me she wanted to start cooking lunch early.
So to the kitchen we went.

I like this curl in my grandma's hair.
Still so black and curly.
She's peeling vegetables here.
My grandma's hands.
Old and worn out. But still working hard each day.
I am using a slow shutter speed to show motion in this picture.
She's chopping onions.
Then its down to business.
Cooking!
Here is the picture of her spatula.
I went outside and capture this picture of her.
Composition: Framing.
Finally, we sat down to have lunch.
Grandma and her chopstick :)
After lunch, she told me she was going to pluck rambutans.
But she's not going to sell them today, because all her rambutans are sold out.
She's just going to pluck it for the family to enjoy.
Her son (my uncle) and her walking to the rambutan trees.
She looks up as the rumbutans fall down one by one.
My uncle was cutting the fruits down.
Our harvest! :D
Red and yellow rambutans.
Effect: Zooming
She's peeling the rambutan skin off for her grandson.
My grandma lost her index finger while she was still a toddler.
I asked her how she lost her finger
She told me she was playing with a knife when she accidentally cut her finger.
The doctor had to amputate the tip of her finger because of infection.
Then, I took a tour around her old house..
She still has this old lamp hanging in her house :)

You can see contrast her.
Her old fireplace and the modern kettle.

My grandma used to have a lot of chickens.
These are the old chicken coup.

Then, grandma said she was going to her farm to take care of her vegetables.
Cutting up veggies for dinner.

Working hard and fast.

She wanted to plant some new veggies.
Her hands, again.
Working.
Shallow depth of field.
Can you see my grandma at the background?
The main subject of the day :)
Even though it was a tiring day. And I got a lot of mosquito bites. I still enjoyed following my grandma around, taking her pictures and documenting her life. Even if it was just for a day.
My grandma works very fast.
I can't believe she's already 70+ years old but she works like a 30 year old.
I love her.
Thank you ah ma, for a day spent with you! :)
